One day & Two day Programme on Drug Abuse Prevention for Prison Functionaries & Prisoners- PTS Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Port Blair

NISD organised One Day and Two day Programme on Drug Abuse Prevention for Prison Functionaries from 26th & 27th -28th September 2019 at   PTS, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Port Blair. Above programs were inaugurated by Sh. Abash Kumar IPS, ADGP, Dept. of Prison, Govt. of Tamil Nadu . The Awareness programs organised for both the prison officials and Prisoners of Andaman & Nikobar Administration with objective of sensitising the participants on Drug Abuse Prevention and empower participants with knowledge, skills and aptitude to alleviate the consequences of drug dependence

A Two day Capacity Building Programme on Drug Abuse Prevention for Prison Functionaries of Andaman & Nicobar Administration was organized by National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) in collaboration with Academy of Prisons & Correctional Administration (APCA), Vellore and Prison Department of Andaman & Nicobar Administration from 27th - 28th September 2019 at Port Blair.  The programme was inaugurated by Sh. Abash Kumar, ADGP, Dept. of Prison, Govt. of Tamil Nadu and Dr. R Giriraj, Deputy Director, National Institute of Social Defence, M/o Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India.

The main objectives of the programme was to orient the participants on Drug Abuse Prevention; empower participants with knowledge, skills and aptitude to alleviate the consequences of drug dependence amongst individuals, family and society at large; strengthen the technical and managerial capacity of partners linked to prison and to initiate activities with quality for best service delivery among the prisoners towards Drug Demand Reduction.

Totally 30 attended the above programme. All the drug abuse related issues and its interventions were clearly explained by eminent Resource Persons. Roles and responsibilities of Prison officials for Drug Abuse Prevention in the prison premises also were clearly discussed. The participants felt that the programme was highly useful and suggested to have at least once in six months. During the valedictory programme, Dr. R Giriraj delivered valedictory address and distributed certificates. Prof. Beulah Emmanuel, Course Coordinator delivered valedictory address and thanked NISD, all the participants and supporters of the programmes.
