Three Days Training Program against Drug Abuse for Prison Functionaries

Three Days Training Program against Drug Abuse for Prison Functionaries at  Vellore  was organised by NISD in Collaboration with  Academy of Prison and Correctional Administration(APCA), Vellore, Tamil Nadu  from 24th – 26th October 2017. The Main focus of the training was  to train/ sensitise Prison officials of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry, Goa and  Kerala  for well understanding of  the issues related  Drug  Abuse.

It has been noticed that majority of the crimes are directly or indirectly associated with drug abuse and alcoholism. During the training program,  Drug Abuse issue was taught  in terms of its nature, responsible factors and its detrimental impact in the society.  Further also, the topics such as Governmental programs, legislations, counselling and role of prison officialswere explained to prison officials which will enable them to effectively deal with prisoners.  Eminent Resource Persons  from Narcotics Control Bureau, Department of Psychiatry(CMC Hospital, Vellore), TTK Ranganathan Foundation(RRTC-South, Chennai.) and Criminology Department of Universities handled the sessions on Drug Abuse  during the training program.

Total, 53 Prison Officials representing Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Pondicherry, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh  and Goa attended the above training Program and the training was highly beneficial  to Prison Officials.
