Three days Capacity Building Workshop for Teachers and Counsellors on DAP
In order to combat the menace of drug abuse among adolescents particularly students and educate school teachers/counsellors working in various Government schools under the Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi about Drug Abuse Prevention and Counselling Skills, National Institute of Social Defence(NISD) organised two three days Capacity Building Workshop in collaboration with State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Delhi from 15th - 17th November, 2016 and 21st - 23rd November, 2016 at SCERT Bhawan, New Delhi.
There were about 230 teachers/counsellors who participated in the said workshops. Various experts from NDDTC, AIIMS and ICCE trainer covered the subjects such as types of drugs, their psycho-social effects, role of teachers and parents, basic counselling skill techniques and developing life skills in the students for effective communication & coping with the day to day stress.
During the valedictory session, Ms Ghazala Meenai, Joint Secretary (SD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India interacted with the participants and enlightened them with the problems being faced by people addicted to drugs in realities. She further highlighted the Role of Counsellor as a friend, mentor and guide for the students in Schools. Ms Punya Srivastava, Secretary (Education), Govt. of NCT of Delhi encouraged the participants to engage with the students in an emphatic manner in the present changing environment.
Shri Anand Katoch, Director, NISD emphasized that life skills should be an integral part of education as it result in holistic development of the child.
The workshop was appreciated by the participants.
