Training of trainers on ODIC and CPLI conducted by NISD from Dec 10-19 in Delhi

The National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) recently conducted training of trainers (ToT) in Delhi for the representatives of Regional Resource and Training Centres (RRTC) and a few expert trainers from various parts of India. The training was on ODIC (Outreach & Drop-in Centre) from December 10 to 14, and for CPLI (Community-based Peer-Led Intervention) from December 15 to 19. The concluding day saw a valedictory session, which was chaired by Ms Radhika Chakravarthy, Joint Secretary, Min. of Social Justice and Empowerment, and Dr. Veerendra Mishra, Director, NISD. Also present were Mr. M. Sunil Kumar, Dy. Dir, Admin & Planning, NISD, and Dr. Sijo George, Project Manager, National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), apart from the resource person, Ms. Kalyani.

The Joint Secretary talked about combating substance use among children and saving them from coming in the grip of drugs, and added that the best strategy for the same is prevention. Dr. Mishra assured the trainers that they have NISD’s complete support in this endeavour.

During the 10-day training programme, the participants were taught about the roles and responsibilities of the project staff under ODIC and PLI. They went through concept clarification on ODIC and CPLI. Sights were identified for the implementation of ODIC and CPLI and various activities were carried in both the projects. Monitoring and evaluation tools were also discussed at the session, where strategies under each project were identified. For ODIC, it is Behavioural Change Communication (BCC) and for PLI it is life skill module that will be taught to those vulnerable. The resource persons included Mr. Bilal, Dr. Alok Agarwal, Ms. Kalyani and Advocate Anand Kumar Asthana.
